The Redditors made a gift to the Dian Fossy Gorilla Fund, a charity for preserving gorillas, to “make a difference” in our world.
The adoption of gorillas began on Friday, when a member of the WSB community said he had sent a donation to the Dian Fossey Gorilla fund, which allowed them to adopt their own gorilla.
“It is safe to say that the investor community on Reddit is not traditionally the one we consider our support base. But they really surprised us and overwhelmed us over the weekend.” said Dr Tara Stoinski, who described the donations as “phenomenal.”
According to KnowYourMeme, the WallStreetBets users referring to each other as “monkeys” comes from the prequel of the Planet of Apes films, and Caesar’s explanation that “strong together” is a currency that is often repeated in Reddit’s posts.
In addition, another Redditor purchased 100 calls for offers of chicken (the current joke being that it is a preferred food of WSB Redditor, and the “tendies” are used as the term for the reward/gain from the stock) for their local school with their earnings.
