Google drops to 15% revenue tax for Play Store apps

Starting from 1st July 2021, Google will take a 15 % cut in the first millions of Google Play Google Play annual revenue that a developer earns, down from its current rate of 30%.

Product Management VP Sameer Samat says that developers who earn $2 million, $5 million, and “even $10 million” each year have told Google that this change will make a difference to make their businesses more sustainable, even if they are taking in more than $1 million.

Unlike Apple’s App Store, the reduction applies to the first $1 million, regardless of total sales. Apple applies its lower rate of 15 % to a developer until the developer exceeds $1 million in revenue in a given year. After this, the higher figure of 30 % is applied to all the profits of that developer.
