Facebook building a tracking smartwatch

Reports say that Facebook is building its own smartwatch, which will give the social media giant access to data about your body.

The watch will initially run Android, but will eventually run a custom operating system developed by Facebook. It will focus on Facebook’s apps, i.e. Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp – and allow them to communicate with each other as well as with other health and fitness apps.

This would give the company more integration into people’s lives, and offer them a new level of personal data collection. The watch could record fitness levels and sleeping habits, which the social media giant could then share with advertisers and other third parties.
